The cursed monk Float has fallen in love with Nineyes, Rudra’s twin sister who has total of 9 eyes according to the legend. Float is obsessed with the mystery surrounding her ninth eye. Meanwhile things are not so smooth for the rest of the gang. Pat and Bajie are unexpectedly seized by Rudra and wired into the gigantic soul-machine that powers the Quantum Umbrella. While in the outside world, Wukung and Samonk are captured by GEF. Because they have been affected by their trip through the Quantum passage, they are wired into the behemoth Quantum Disrupter that will use their auras to break through the Umbrella when GEF attacks. Armageddon is imminent!

 

FLOAT#5 - Xianbala III (Part 3 of 4): "The Eyes" was published and released in May 2000 by Yi.magination. The book was distributed through Diamond Comics (Previews FEB VOL 10#2, Item #FEB001734) and FM International (RequestLine).

One thing noteworthy about this book is that, unlike the last 3 issues, the artwork here was mostly done by Yi-Chih Chen himself, the creator of FLOAT Comics Series. There are also 3 newcomers involved in various stages of the book production. They are: Production Designer Ting Li, Penciller/Inker Alvin Williamson and Arlando Headd.

This issue, subtitled “Eyes”, is the third book of a 4 part mini series called “Xianbala”. Both in terms of story and art, this is no doubt THE most challenging and daring issue of all 5 books that have been published so far. Especially in a nightmare sequence, the author created a twisted erotic theme that is rarely attempted in the graphic media. A theme borders between the darkest carnal desire and a seemingly psychotic ascension of the human soul. The subject is no doubt very difficult and challenging for both the readers and the creator. But when the subject is done right, with the right hands on the right story and in a right medium, as in the case of this book, the result is poetry. A book that is utterly unsettling, yet extremely beautiful.
